Portland Towers — originally built in 1979 by Aalborg Portland as twin concrete silos — have been reimagined into striking multi-tenant office spaces.
The two towering silos now contain vertical circulation, housing the stairs and lifts, while six cantilevered office floors extend outward, offering sweeping views over the city and harbour. The design preserves the raw concrete cylinders and wraps them in a lightweight, circular glass structure. This transparent facade, inspired by drifting clouds against a blue sky, emphasizes the silos’ rounded form while creating a contemporary and airy workspace.
At ground level, a shared reception welcomes visitors. Corten steel-framed entrances, steel ceilings, and original concrete walls pay homage to the site’s industrial heritage.
On the 12th floor — 59 metres above ground — shared amenities include a canteen, meeting centre, and a panoramic outdoor terrace with breathtaking views across Greater Copenhagen, the Øresund Strait, and the Swedish coastline.
Sustainability guided every stage of the project, from reusing the existing structures to carefully selecting materials and technical solutions. The result: a building that has achieved BREEAM “Very Good” certification.
