Alpine design
The imposing building (200 x 80 meters) can be seen from far and wide. It was thus extremely important to the client that it should visually act as a new flagship for the company, while also merging harmoniously into the Alpine landscape.
The design team was inspired by the surrounding alpine scenery: The stone base is a homage to the massive rocky faces and the “wooden” façade refers to the surrounding forests, while the shimmering metal and glass finishes at roof level recall the eternal ice of the glacier.
A unique structural solution
Hidden below ground level behind the impressive façade is a solid prefabricated and in-situ concrete structure, which provides adequate stability despite the huge hanging and production loads and also absorbs the vibration generated by the machines. A particular challenge was to take into account the various crane rails, the wide spans, and the potential for future expansion. To this end, ATP developed a comprehensive supporting structure that covers all potential future modifications and alterations.
Sustainable
In drawing up the energy concept, ATP’s engineers placed great value on sustainability and saving resources. Hence, water from both the “Ritsche” and the surrounding rock faces is used: to provide free cooling in summer and to operate the heat pumps in winter. Excess exhaust heat from the heat pumps is recycled in order to, for example, keep the access ramp free of ice.
